PADI Divemaster Course
Take your first step into professional diving with the PADI Divemaster Course at Ocean Lovers Taganga.
This is our focused 2–3 week professional training program, designed for experienced Rescue Divers who already meet the Divemaster entry requirements and are ready to take the next step.
Over the course, you’ll develop the skills, knowledge, leadership and professional mindset expected from a PADI Divemaster while training alongside our instructors in a working PADI 5★ IDC Dive Resort.
Your training goes beyond simply completing the required exercises. You’ll spend plenty of time underwater around Taganga and Tayrona National Park, assist with dive activities, interact with real customers and certified divers, and gain practical exposure to the daily operation of a professional dive center.
The course focuses on dive leadership, diver supervision, safety and risk management, guiding, dive theory, demonstration-quality skills, problem solving and professional conduct.
Already have 40+ dives and limited time? This is the fastest way to complete your Divemaster training with Ocean Lovers.
What is a PADI Divemaster?
A PADI Divemaster is the first professional level in recreational scuba diving.
As a Divemaster, you move beyond diving only for yourself and learn how to lead certified divers, assist instructors, supervise dive activities, support student divers, and help create safe and enjoyable diving experiences.
It’s also your first major step toward a career in scuba diving and the pathway toward becoming a PADI Instructor.
Who is it for?
Our Divemaster Course is best suited to experienced recreational divers who already have at least 40 logged dives and meet the other Divemaster prerequisites.
It’s ideal if you want to:
- Take your diving to a professional level
- Start working in the recreational diving industry
- Continue toward becoming a PADI Instructor
- Develop stronger leadership and dive-management skills
- Become a more confident and capable diver
- Complete your professional training in a relatively short period of time
If you have fewer than 40 dives, want more time to develop your experience, or would like to become more deeply involved in daily dive-center life, check out our 4, 6 and 8-week Divemaster Internships instead.

Schedule
Duration: Minimum 2 Weeks
The PADI Divemaster Course can be completed in approximately 2–3 weeks, depending on your previous experience, individual progression, dive-center operations and training requirements.
Two weeks is an intensive schedule and is best suited to confident, experienced divers. Where possible, we recommend allowing some flexibility in your travel plans so your training doesn’t have to be rushed.
Training days generally start around 7:00 AM with our morning coffee ritual before preparing the dive center, boat and equipment for the day’s activities.
Mornings are generally spent diving, assisting with courses and dive activities, completing practical training exercises, or working on Divemaster skills.
Core training usually finishes around midday, leaving many afternoons available for eLearning, independent study, assignments and enjoying Taganga. Some training activities may also take place in the afternoon depending on the schedule.
No two days are exactly the same—the exact program varies according to your progression, weather, courses, dive-center operations and training requirements.
The course follows three broad phases:
Phase 1: Theory & eLearning
Your PADI Divemaster eLearning provides the theoretical foundation for becoming a dive professional.
You’ll develop your knowledge in areas including:
- The role and responsibilities of a Divemaster
- Supervising diving activities
- Assisting student divers
- Diver safety and risk management
- Dive physics and physiology
- Dive equipment
- Decompression theory
- The underwater environment
- Dive planning and management
Your instructor will support you throughout the theory portion, answer questions and help prepare you for the required Divemaster knowledge assessments and exams.
Phase 2: Dive Center Experience
Professional diving isn’t only about what happens underwater.
Throughout your course, you’ll become part of the daily Ocean Lovers operation and gain practical exposure to areas such as:
- Dive-center preparation and daily operations
- Preparing equipment for courses and fun dives
- Customer service
- Dive planning and logistics
- Equipment care and basic maintenance
- Compressor operations
- Assisting instructors and student divers
- Working with certified divers
- Conservation activities
Because this is an intensive 2–3 week course, the focus remains on completing your Divemaster training. Candidates looking for significantly more operational experience and deeper involvement in dive-center life should consider our 4–8 week Divemaster Internship.
Phase 3: Professional Skills & Evaluation
Throughout the course, you’ll develop and demonstrate the practical skills required of a PADI Divemaster.
Together with your instructor, you’ll work on areas such as:
- Demonstration-quality scuba skills
- Diver supervision
- Dive briefings
- Dive-site setup and management
- Navigation and mapping
- Assisting instructors
- Rescue skills
- Problem solving
- Dive leadership
- Professional conduct
You’ll practice each area, receive feedback from your instructor and continue developing until you can demonstrate the required skills confidently and at a professional standard.
By the end of the program, the goal isn’t simply to complete the required assessments—it’s to begin thinking and acting like a dive professional.
