PADI Divemaster Internship
Want to become a PADI Divemaster but don’t have the experience or 40 logged dives required to start the course yet?
Our Divemaster Internship combines extensive diving, professional training, accommodation, and real-world dive center experience into one immersive program at Ocean Lovers Taganga.
Choose between 4, 6, or 8 weeks, depending on your current experience and how deeply you want to immerse yourself in professional dive center life. You’ll spend your time diving around Taganga and Tayrona National Park, building your skills and logged dives before transitioning into the official PADI Divemaster curriculum once you meet the required prerequisites.
Unlike a shorter Divemaster Course, the internship is built around learning by doing. You don’t just complete the required exercises—you become part of a working dive center and learn what being a dive professional is really about.
Along the way, you’ll gain experience assisting instructors and students, preparing equipment, working with customers, learning equipment maintenance and compressor operations, participating in conservation activities, and understanding the day-to-day organization of a professional dive operation.
The longer you stay, the more you dive, the more responsibility you can take on, and the more confident and experienced you can become as a dive professional.
What is a PADI Divemaster?
A PADI Divemaster is the first professional level in recreational scuba diving.
As a Divemaster, you move beyond diving only for yourself and learn how to lead certified divers, assist PADI Instructors, supervise diving activities, support student divers, and help create safe and enjoyable experiences underwater.
Becoming a Divemaster is also the first major step toward a professional career in scuba diving and the pathway toward becoming a PADI Instructor.

The Divemaster Internship is ideal for divers who want to:
- Turn their passion for diving into a profession
- Gain extensive real-world diving experience
- Work in dive centers around the world
- Continue toward becoming a PADI Instructor
- Improve their confidence, awareness and leadership underwater
- Experience life inside a professional dive operation
- Spend several weeks living and diving on Colombia’s Caribbean coast
You should enjoy being underwater, working with people from around the world, and being actively involved in the daily life of a dive center.

More Than a Certification
Our Divemaster Internship isn’t designed simply to get another certification card.
It’s an opportunity to live at a dive center, dive extensively, work alongside experienced dive professionals, meet people from around the world and experience what life in the diving industry is really lik
Whether your next step is working as a Divemaster, traveling and diving around the world, continuing to your PADI Instructor Development Course, or simply becoming the strongest diver you can be, the goal is for you to leave Ocean Lovers with something much more valuable than the minimum requirements:
experience, confidence and the mindset of a dive professional.
Choose Your Divemaster Internship
Choose the internship length that best matches your current diving experience, available time and professional goals.
The longer you stay, the more opportunities you have to dive, assist courses, experience different situations, develop your leadership skills and become part of the daily operation of the dive center.

5,350,000 COP

Includes:
- 30 nights accommodation
- Approximately 30+ dives during the internship / finish with around 60+ logged dives.
- Divemaster training and professional development
- Dive center experience and mentorship
This is the fastest-paced internship option and is best for candidates who already feel confident and comfortable underwater.
6 Weeks | Divemaster Experience
6,250,000 COP
Our recommended option for most candidates.
The six-week program gives you more time to develop your skills, assist with different courses, gain professional experience and become comfortable with the daily rhythm of a working dive center.
Recommended starting experience: approximately 20+ logged dives
Includes:
- 45 nights accommodation
- Approximately 40+ dives during the internship / finish with around 60+ logged dives.
- Divemaster training and professional development
- Extended dive center experience and mentorship
The additional time means you’re not simply learning the required skills—you have more opportunities to put them into practice in real situations.
8 Weeks | Divemaster Immersion
7,000,000 COP
Best value & maximum experience.
Designed for divers with less experience or anyone who wants the most complete and immersive Divemaster experience.
Recommended starting experience: approximately 15+ logged dives
Includes:
- 60 nights accommodation
- Approximately 50+ dives during the internship, with a typical outcome of around 65–70+ logged dives
- Divemaster training and professional development
- Maximum dive center immersion and mentorship
- More opportunities to assist courses and participate in dive operations
- More time to develop confidence before working professionally
With two months at Ocean Lovers, you’ll have the opportunity to progress from building your own diving experience to increasingly thinking and operating like a dive professional.
Approximate dive numbers may vary depending on training requirements, weather, dive-center operations and individual progression. Training dives and dives completed while assisting courses may form part of the total dive estimate.
How the Internship Works
The exact program and pacing depend on whether you join us for 4, 6, or 8 weeks and on your previous diving experience.
Rather than following exactly the same schedule every day, your internship develops alongside the daily activities of the dive center. This gives you experience with real customers, real courses and real dive operations.
The program follows four broad phases.
Phase 1: Build Your Diving Experience
Spend extensive time underwater around Taganga and Tayrona National Park while building your logged dives and developing the skills that only come from experience.
You’ll work on areas such as:
- Buoyancy and trim
- Air consumption and management
- Navigation
- Dive planning
- Situational awareness
- Buddy awareness
- Equipment familiarity
- Confidence in different diving conditions
- General underwater comfort
Once you reach the required 40 logged dives and meet the remaining prerequisites, you can transition into the official PADI Divemaster curriculum under the guidance of your instructor.
Phase 2: Divemaster Theory & eLearning
Once you officially begin your Divemaster training, you’ll receive access to the PADI Divemaster eLearning.
The theory develops your understanding of topics such as dive supervision, risk management, dive physics and physiology, equipment, decompression theory, the underwater environment, and the role of a dive professional.
Additional resources, including the Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving and relevant PADI standards and training materials, will help you develop a deeper understanding of recreational diving and professional dive operations.
Your instructors are there throughout the process to explain concepts, answer questions and help prepare you for your Divemaster assessments and exams.
Phase 3: Dive Center Immersion
This is where the internship really differs from simply completing a Divemaster course.
You become part of the Ocean Lovers team and gain hands-on exposure to how a professional dive center operates.
Depending on the daily schedule, you may participate in:
- Dive center preparation and daily operations
- Preparing equipment for courses and fun dives
- Customer service and interacting with international guests
- Assisting instructors and student divers
- Dive logistics and organization
- Equipment care and basic maintenance
- Compressor operations and tank filling
- Boat and dive-site preparation
- Conservation activities
- Beach and underwater clean-ups
- Supporting content creation and marketing activities
The objective isn’t simply to complete your certification. It’s to leave with a much better understanding of what working as a dive professional is actually like.
Internship days generally begin around 7:00 AM. Because you are participating in a real dive operation, no two days are exactly the same. Some days may finish after the morning diving schedule, while others continue into the afternoon with training, workshops or dive-center activities.
Phase 4: Professional Skills & Evaluation
Throughout your internship, you’ll progressively develop the underwater and surface skills required of a PADI Divemaster.
Together with your instructor and the Ocean Lovers team, you’ll work through areas such as:
- Demonstration-quality scuba skills
- Dive-site setup and management
- Dive briefings
- Mapping and navigation
- Diver supervision
- Assisting instructors
- Problem solving
- Rescue skills
- Dive leadership
- Professional conduct
Rather than trying to complete everything at once, you’ll have time to practice, receive feedback, improve and repeat skills until you become comfortable performing them at a professional level.
The longer internship options provide significantly more opportunity to gain experience after learning the individual skills and to become increasingly comfortable operating as part of the dive team.
Requirements
To enter the formal PADI Divemaster training, you must meet the applicable PADI prerequisites, including:
- PADI Rescue Diver certification or qualifying equivalent
- Current EFR/CPR and First Aid training or qualifying equivalent
- Required medical clearance for diving
- The required number of logged dives
- Meeting the applicable PADI age and certification requirements
We also look for something that can’t be measured by the number of dives in your logbook:
A proactive attitude and genuine willingness to participate in dive center life.
A Divemaster Internship is an active professional training experience. We want candidates who are curious, willing to help, eager to learn and excited to become part of the team.
Don’t have Rescue Diver or current EFR yet?
No problem. Rescue Diver and EFR can be added to your internship at a special package rate.
Don’t have 40 logged dives yet?
That’s exactly what our internship is designed for.
You can join Ocean Lovers before reaching the Divemaster entry requirement and use the first part of your internship to dive, gain experience and build your logged dives.
Your recommended internship length will depend on your certification level, number of logged dives and previous diving experience.
Rescue Diver & EFR
Not Rescue certified yet, or need to renew your EFR?
Add the required PADI Rescue Diver and/or EFR training to your internship at a special package price.
This allows divers who haven’t completed all of the Divemaster prerequisites yet to build them into their overall training program.
DSD Leader Extension | +1 Week
Want to gain even more experience before leaving?
Once you’ve completed your PADI Divemaster certification and meet the applicable prerequisites, you can extend your stay by one additional week to work toward your Discover Scuba Diving Leader qualification.
This gives you additional experience working with beginner divers and expands what you can do professionally as a PADI Divemaster.
