The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular beginner scuba certification and your first step to becoming an independent certified diver. During the course you learn the theory, skills and confidence to dive safely with a buddy to a maximum depth of 18m/60ft.
At Ocean Lovers Taganga, your training combines flexible PADI eLearning, confined-water practice and four open water training dives in the warm Caribbean waters around Taganga. It is a practical, supportive way to get certified while enjoying one of Colombia’s best-known scuba diving towns.

How the course works
1. Start online
After booking, we assign your PADI eLearning so you can begin the theory at your own pace before or during your stay in Taganga.
2. Practice skills
You train with your instructor in shallow confined water until the main safety and comfort skills feel clear.
3. Complete 4 ocean dives
Use your new skills on four open water training dives and build confidence step by step.
4. Get certified
After completing the theory, skills and dives, you receive your PADI Open Water Diver certification, recognized worldwide.
Who this course is for
This beginner scuba diving course is ideal if you want a real certification, not just a one-time try dive. It is also a good choice if you are travelling through Colombia and want to learn to dive in Taganga with enough time to practice properly, ask questions and build confidence before joining fun dives after certification.
Diving in Taganga
Taganga is a relaxed Caribbean fishing village close to Santa Marta and Tayrona National Park. The area offers warm water, varied training sites and easy access from the dive center, making it a comfortable place to complete your PADI Open Water course in Colombia.
Course duration
Most students complete the course in 3 to 4 days, depending on eLearning progress, ocean conditions and scheduling. If you have limited travel time, contact us before booking so we can help plan realistic dates.
